Leadership Inspiration

Leadership Inspiration

I set out preparing this article like many in the past looking for inspiration.  I wanted to think about what actually inspires me and what I do to inspire others.  This got me to really consider that word, Inspiration.

The online dictionary of Merriam-Webster defines inspiration as something that makes someone want to do something or that gives someone an idea about what to do or create.  I actually like the second one better, a force or influence that makes someone want to do something.

If your actions inspire others,
To dream more, learn more,
Do more and become more,
You are a Leader.
John Quincy Adams

It seems to me inspiration has two parts, an internal to me and an external to others.  I think it is our job as leaders to spread the external inspiration to our followers. As a salesman I have never really had any issues with motivation, but I am thinking motivation and inspiration are different.  For instance, when I motivate myself it is to do something I need to do but maybe don’t really care about.  When I am inspired it feels spiritual.  Like I am naturally drawn into what I am doing.  A higher calling if you will, although I can be motivated by money, I am truly inspired by my wife’s singing or a grandbaby developing some personality.

Now external inspiration, as leaders we need to be able to spread that excitement to those around us.  Thinking close to home, we need to be inspiring our wife and children to want more than a clean house and good grades.  Right? To chase dreams, develop hobbies, to get interested in extracurricular activities.

I want to be a force that inspires, I want our endeavor here to be a force that inspires.  How do we make that happen?  I also used a thesaurus to keep my idea flowing and I was inspired by the synonyms of the word.  Words like charged, rousing, stimulating and thrilling.

Can we as leaders, and Christian Men, be a rousing, stimulating, charged and thrilling force? I think we can.

I am a Christian, a Husband and a Father, in that order. Leadership is important to me, because I see too many outside influences acting on the lives of my children, and I need support to make sure I am the most dominant influence. I appreciate your feedback and enjoy reading your input. Thanks in advance for being part of this endeavor.
